Touche Fencing Club
is pleased to include wheelchair fencing into its club. This dynamic sport is growing in popularity and is a great way for less able bodied people to enjoy fencing.

All three weapons are taught for wheelchair fencing at TFC. Baldip and Hilary Sahota both coach the GB wheelchair Fencing Team, so you are in good hands!

TFC has a wheelchair frame for fencers to clamp their wheelchairs into, to provide stability
for coaching and bouts.
Fencers select their fencing distance depending upon the reach of each fencer, and fencing is maintained at this distance. The rules for Wheelchair fencing are the same as for able -bodied fencing, though the target area is modified for epee.

Gabby Down

Gabby has been fencing at TFC for nearly a year and started when she was 11yrs old. Now 12, she trains twice a week and also takes part in wheelchair basketball and athletics.
She is on the Talented Fencer pathway funded by the BDFA.

Gabby fences Foil and Epee, and has participated in training weekend camps at Worcester, and week long camps at both Bath and Stoke Mandeville.

In November 2010 she was asked to do a demonstration at the Sports Aid charity ball in London in front of over 600 guests. In this guest list were some of the UKs  top 70 world medallist’s and Olympians . Gabby was interviewed in front of this live audience

More recently Gabby represented her country in Canada, fencing older and more experienced fencers. Despite this she fought a close match with the world number one from China
finally losing 14 points to 15 in the Direct Elimination round.
